My EME 2040 Experience
I was in an in-person section for this class, and I have had a very good experience so far. I signed up for this class because my advisor recommended it to fulfill my computer literacy requirement, and I am aiming to go into education, so it was a perfect fit. It was an earlier class, so sometimes I was unable to focus well, but that's no one's fault! One thing I struggled with was keeping up with the large amount of assignments. Most of them are not difficult, and are actually fun most of the time, but the frequency of them was difficult to stay on top of, especially when they often required me using tech I was unfamiliar with. Overall, though, I have enjoyed this class and learned a great deal of things that are incredibly applicable to my future career and even my current career as a student.
As a future educator, I could improve the classroom experience by building a safe, respectful space like the one I experienced in EME 2040. One thing that I could change from my EME 2040 experience is to have more strictly face to face discussions rather than over Twitter or blogs like this one. They are beneficial this way, but in my subject of literature and theatre, I'd like to have more interpersonal interaction in my classroom.
Open Educational Resources
Open educational resources are resources made publicly available for free use by the creator. They can be any kind of media. I found an article online that provides some basic definitions as to what OERs are, specifically textbooks in an academic setting. The article can be accessed here!
PowerPoint for Information Dissemination
For Assignment 4, I chose to create PowerPoint teaching students basic information about William Shakespeare's life and works. I liked how creative I could get with this assignment and how applicable it is to my academics and future career. I had a difficult time with the high pass portion, simply because the requirements were much more than the pass grade. However, I enjoyed this assignment overall and learned new things about PowerPoint, which I previously thought I had a good hold on. Here's a look at one of my slides!
